Why do I need to age verify?
UK online safety rules mean adult content must not be shown to people who have not proved they are 18 or over. That is why age verification is now needed before someone can access content we classify as Not Safe For Work (NSFW).
On GoYOLO this means:
- Safe For Work (SFW) profile content can stay visible more broadly.
- NSFW profile photos and gallery images must be limited to viewers who pass the required checks.
- UK viewers, or viewers whose location cannot be confirmed, should only see the restricted blurred preview until they confirm they are over 18 or pass a future verification check.
Why this matters
The aim is to stop under-18s from reaching adult material while still allowing compliant profiles to remain discoverable. If a profile contains explicit sexual imagery, nudity, or arousal-focused content, that material should only be available after verification.
What a viewer can expect
- If they are not age verified, restricted images stay blurred and locked.
- If they are age verified and pass the location rules, they can see the full restricted image.
- If a profile has been prepared to be fully SFW, it can remain visible without that extra gate.
What profile owners should do
- Use clearly SFW profile photos for public-facing visibility.
- Mark explicit gallery images as age restricted.
- Keep public text, thumbnails, and profile cards suitable for a general audience.
